This is the first drawing of the infamous Groover codpiece, which later became the talking codpiece. Note the size of the ears - more mouse than rat

In the second drawing the codpiece is more rat like. It may not be talking but it is starting to move and show curiosity

The last drawing shows the codpiece in its final form but it is being worn by another cartoon character called 'Rocky Thighs'.

I've found these caricatures which I think appeared in the NME, but I'm not sure about the dates. This one is of Brian Ferry and I suppose Benyon thought he was rather oily

One of the Beatles, just as Apple were breaking up. I suppose the symbolism is about the sad  affair being rotten to the core...just a thought! Anyway, from memory Paul was not Benyon's favourite

The red dot isn't a hole in his hat, it's the bottom of a question mark

This is the end of the strip with Pronto on the left, Th'groover centre and Sharko his manager on the right. It has "continued" written bottom right but I'm not sure if it ever was

This is a fragment of a strip. I'm not sure where it came from but it wasn't printed in the NME because of the colour. Maybe I'll try and post as much stuff as possible

Sorting out these drawings is weird, it's like sorting through a draw of used underpants and trying them on. I've found really odd notes about someone called Julie Birchall or Birshall and how she has turned into a squeaky beach ball bouncing around Brighton sea front. I'm not sure what this means or the references to Tony Parsons and young gunslingers with flags popping out of both barrels. What to keep and what to lose, and who really cares?

It's difficult to know if this was a finished drawing or a note to himself, you can never tell. No date on it.

Th'Lone Groover

All these drawings and notes were found in a skip somewhere and sent to me by someone who remembered I once worked with Benyon and so I decided to blog all the material as I soer through it,  until I find it too much of a drag.
